The Washington County Historical Society has placed many of their reference materials in the Nashville Public Library to provide public access to the collection.

The library has the Washington County census on microfilm, the 1820-1850 indexes to the microfilm, the 1860-1880 Washington County census in book form, several Washington County history books that contain individual family histories, two indexed volumes containing the cemetery records for many Washington County cemeteries, and many individual family histories that have been donated to the library.

The library also has the local newspaper on microfilm back to 1863.  Although many obituaries can be found in the newspaper, we refer people to the Washington County Courthouse for birth and marriage records.  The microfilm newspapers (The Nashville Journal and The Nashville News) were published weekly and are not indexed.  There is some overlap for the period of time when Nashville had two newspapers.  The current newspaper is The Nashville News.

Due to extensive use, library genealogical materials are not available for interlibrary loan. Genealogical materials can be viewed in the library using our microfilm machine. At request, staff can conduct a search for an article for a $10 fee.
